Been on the road for a while again. Ashtray tour, Pretty Blue Guns tour. Now im back and its time to get back to blogging. Got some ideas for all the work I've done till now. Lets see what happens

Had an awesome time at Carnival Court last night. Some party times with old friends. Leon, Pieter and Juan is off to Durban and then Jo'burg today for some good times on skateboards. Goodluck with the trip oukies. Keep it safe.

Craving death

Why is it these things in life that fuck you up the most, are the things that the body craves for the most. Well, I guess its actually your mind wanting it. Im sure the body dont want that shit. But what in one's mind makes you need these slow-paced killers and why is it that one can complain about giving a car guard R2, but R24 for cancer-sticks are just fine.

Maybe its time to get out of this self destructive pattern...

Last night at Tygerberg Kampus (Its by Tygerberg Hospital), New Holland and Ben Nevis played a show for one of the hostels on the kampus. Was a different scene, different venue and different crowd.

Oldies made older

I was so amped on my new found technique, I found some of my old 35mm films in my "archive" and scanned them in the same process.

Old Transkei

On our trip through South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique in December, I left my Digital at home because I was mostly busy with the video documentary for Super Sport. I took some photos with my friend Wayne's Holga film camera. I couldn't scan the film properly so i tried to use a desk lamp with the scanner. To my surprise and a little bit of Photoshop, this is how it came out. These pics where taken in the Transkei. I'm pretty amped on this new found technique

New Holland once again impressed us all with their tight set. As usual the crowd was loving it.

Rocked the Daisies

Rocking the Daisies...mmm, what can i say about the festival. "What an experience!" Through all the mud and hay it was one of the best times ever. Definitely heading back to Darling for Rocking the Daisies 2009. Hopefully they'd be more prepared. Some photos of Taxi Violence and Tidal Waves

Weirdnessness

Photos from last night's gig at Klein Libertas. Was a weird vibe over libertas. One I'm not use to, but the bands still played an awesome gig. I shot some photos of Pretty Blue Guns and then partied on Astray Electric and New Holland.

Trying to work on a portrait/lifestyle type portfolio. Placing subjects in surroundings as i know them in, making the photos a bit more subjective (well, kinda). So shot some photos this week with this in mind. Some of my favorites so far: (the guns, astray and new holland tonite! amped!)

Kill City Blues

Friends of mine just gave an extreme makeover to the rehearsal studios next to mercury. It is now called Kill City Blues. They have done an amazing job and the place look great. Capture the moments

So far photography to me has been all about lighting, composition and all the techniques and technical things that you learn when u start off in photography. But these days I’m trying to pay a lot more attention to subject matter and showing the subject in their daily lives. Yeah it is fun dressing a location for a photo shoot or creating a different atmosphere with lighting, but for now I'm trying to work in another direction with my photography

This change in direction and mindset occurred when Grethe (my lovely girlfriend) and I had a discussion about the different approaches to taking a photo. Something she said I’ve heard many times before, but this time I realised what it truly meant. Her words were: “Capture the moment as it is”. So by bouncing a flash of a roof and that flash lighting everything in a room I’m trying to not hide what objects are hiding in the corners. So at the moment I’m trying to gain as much inspiration from the people and events I find myself surrounded in to help me with this new way of thinking.
